New Poll: Mississippi voters support processes to strengthen trust, security, and access in elections

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

JACKSON, Miss. – Mississippi voters have consensus on election process and administration issues, according to a new statewide poll conducted by Arc Insights on behalf of Secure Democracy Foundation. The poll found Mississippi voters support policies that increase trust, security, and voting access in Mississippi elections.

Key findings from the poll of Mississippi voters include:

  • 74% of Mississippi voters support using an electronic ballot tracking system to track the status of their absentee ballot at any time until it is verified and counted.
  • 62% of Mississippi voters support allowing election officials to contact voters with mistakes on their absentee ballots, such as a missing signature, in order to verify their identity and give them the opportunity to correct the mistake.
  • 74% of Mississippi voters support the state offering in-person early voting for all voters.
  • 65% support allowing eligible Mississippi voters to request an absentee ballot through a secure online system as long as the voter can prove their identity and residence.
  • 51% support allowing an eligible Mississippi voter to pick up an absentee ballot application in any public building in Mississippi, such as a post office or library.
  • 80% support restoring voting eligibility to citizens with a past felony conviction who are no longer incarcerated and are living, working, and paying taxes in their community.

“Despite heightened polarization on some issues of the day, Mississippi voters across the political spectrum agree on key issues that impact election administration.” said Daniel Griffith, senior director of policy for Secure Democracy Foundation. “This poll shows Mississippi voters want more out of their elections – more opportunities, more security, and more transparency.”

The poll was commissioned by Secure Foundation Foundation and conducted by Arc Insights. The poll reached Mississippi likely 2024 general voters between November 13-16, 2023. The survey has an overall margin of sampling error of +/- 4.0%. A memo outlining the findings can be found here.
